Spanking bruises and Arnica
In a must-read interview, Firm Hand model, Amy Denison mentions she prepares for spanking shoots by taking Arnica tablets to "reduce bruising."This intrigued Aunty, who has long believed the cream or (especially) the gel is the best way to go.
Can any readers cast light on the proper use of this herbal preparation?

Tablets are indeed the best, because if you take them in advance, they *prevent* heavy bruising - as well as help the healing process afterwards.
The only problem is, most brands of arnica pills you get in the shops have too little actual arnica in them, so you have to go to specialist herbal remedy sellers to get anything like proper concentration. (Can't remember what it's supposed to be though, sorry.)
Good for Amy that she isn't too lazy to do this!
I personally am fairly uncomfortable with arnica tablets but I think that is primarily because I am not knowledgeable about them. I know there are more risks associated with taking them than rubbing on the cream, though.
Thanks for responding adele and bailey. I'm always honored to get a response from either of you, so to hear from both of you made my day. One of the reasons I was interested in the pill version is that a certain someone told me the cream/gel version feels "uncomfortable" initially. I think we'll wait to talk to a sympathetic naturopath before trying the oral method.
Arnica cream burns a fair bit right after you put it on, but it's always felt like a bonus :)
Thing is, though, it really dries out the skin, so it's important to slather on *a lot* of moisturiser - more, perhaps, than without the arnica. That's one drawback the pills don't have - though, of course, a specialist's opinion on this would be more useful.
Devils advocate asks: Are there any known allergic reactions to this particular herbal remedy (taken internally or externally)?
ST Johns wort is clearly unrelated in this context, but it can be a bugger if you get the dose wrong and yet is easy to buy as a brand.
Arnica tincture (10 drops in a glass of water; drink at least 1 hour before spanking)is good before a spanking to minimize bruising.
Arnica gel is good for bruises after a spanking, BUT, do not spank after arnica gel is applied. The bruising will be severe.
